The nurse comes in a while later and asks if I’m ready for lunch. Of course, I say yes and ask for a cheeseburger and fries.
After I eat, I take a short nap that is interrupted by a man and woman walking into the room while chatting with Jason.
The moment I see them, I burst into tears, although I couldn’t tell you why, then leap out of bed and run over to her. She kneels and wraps me tightly in her arms as she murmurs, “Shh, Kayla. It’s alright, we’re here now.”
It takes me a bit to settle down, and even then, my emotions are still all over the place. I’m happy to see them, but I’m still upset that my parents are dead. I don’t remember much about my aunt and uncle, but I somehow know that they were always really nice to me, and Aunt Sandy played with me a lot every time she came to visit. Again, my memories of them are rather vague, but I distinctly remember that.
