Vol.24 Afterwords

Acute laryngitis. Have you all heard of it? It is an inflammation of the vocal cords that causes hoarseness of the voice. I wasn't an actor who uses his voice, but I was affected to the fullest. It was getting cold outside, but I was sleeping in my light pajamas. That was probably the start of it and then I developed it after talking for several hours without being able to drink much water at a meeting. I went to an ENT clinic in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, where they inserted a three-millimeter-diameter laryngeal fiberglass tube (like a stomach camera) through my nose. I had severe acute vocal fold inflammation. But the treatment there did not cure it at all. Even during the recording of 『Konyuu Fantasy Burst』, I couldn't use my voice, so I had to speak in writing. But I was introduced to a hospital for voice actors at the studio (thank you so much!). I went to a good hospital and they told me that steroids would help me heal faster, but in my case, they couldn't use them, so they decided to use a Chinese herb called Koshibako-tou plus Kikyo-gyosho to slowly relieve the inflammation in my vocal cords. For the first week, I was really voiceless. I tried to speak, but I couldn't. It was hard to hear, but I could manage to speak. It was the second week that I managed to speak, although it was hard to hear. However, using the vocal cords would make the healing process worse, so I basically lived a silent life without speaking. After two weeks of silent living, I finally returned to a state where I could use my voice on a daily basis. It is really tough to be without voice for two weeks. Even at the hospital, I had to use written communication. Even at the supermarket, I couldn't even tell whether I needed a plastic bag or not. The first two days were stressful because I couldn't speak up when I was upset. Oh well, that's why people spit venom at me on X or something. ......So, finally, the Golgint Arc, aka Sarica Arc, is over. It was long! When did I start plotting the Golgint Arc? Was it in the year 2022......? I feel like I've finally finished writing it. As a result, it has been three books a year for a long time. It was really long. I think the three volumes totaled over 900 pages, right? This is real fantasy (a lie). Goögint's story demanded more volume than I expected. Even the twenty-four volumes were less than three hundred pages when I started the rewrite. The manuscript alone, excluding the illustrations, was over 420 pages. From 145 to 165 pages, from 175 to 190 pages. From page 240 to page 266, from page 275 to page 285, and from page 360 to the conclusion, I added a lot. As a result, more than 120 pages were added and revised. No, it was really long. Golgint was a very hateful man. I was writing this book hoping to get rid of him as soon as possible and make the readers feel refreshed. I hope you will feel refreshed after reading it. By the way, the other day I read a great book titled 『Trauma and Recovery』. I heard that it is a specialized book that no one who studies trauma should miss. It seems that when people are exposed to traumatic experiences such as war, a sense of isolation and helplessness is imprinted on them. The feeling that you are alone and helpless, that no one can help you, that no one is on your side, sticks deep in your mind. When a person is born as a baby, the world is a very uncertain and unstable space. But by having a mother, someone who is always there to take care of you, you can have a sense of security that this world is safe, that this world will protect you. That's the start of their involvement in the world and they say it doesn't change for the rest of their lives. But traumatic experiences destroy the base of our involvement in the world. That is why trauma treatment involves group work. In the case of war, if you separate them from the people they fought with, their symptoms get worse. If they are together, the symptoms do not worsen. That's why they get together in a war buddy group and talk about it. No one will hurt them there and everyone will protect them. It was a big groan. In a way, Count Golgint may have been like a demon who traumatized the people of Gassel. Now, let me give my acknowledgements. Goban-sensei, thank you for your always wonderful illustrations! Editor-san, thank you again! Thanks also to the proofreader! Now, I'll end with a few words!
