Soon, we alight on the house landing pad. Exiting the air car, we grab Lily’s bags and make our way inside. We place them by the stairs and head into the living room to find our parents standing and dressed for work.
They kneel and say hello to Lily and hug her, which she returns a bit stiffly. It’s not surprising considering that’s how she normally is with anyone other than Harper and me.
They stand as Lily returns to glomp onto my side, and I tilt my head, look at them questioningly, and ask, “I thought you had the day off?”
Dad shrugs. “So did we, but the director called and says he needs us.”
