Tears form in my eyes as I storm off towards the air car with Harper close behind me. I can hear Derek calling after me as I climb into the air car, and I still hear Derek’s desperate pleas until the doors close.
Harper slides over and wraps an arm around me, her face a mix of concern and anger. “Are you okay?” she asks softly, reaching out to squeeze my hand.
I take a shaky breath, trying to compose myself. Tears begin to fall as I admit, “No, I’m not,” my voice cracking, “but I will be.”
As the air car lifts off, I can't help but look back at the shrinking figure of Derek. Part of me wants to turn back, to hear him out, but I know I shouldn’t. He broke my trust, and no explanation can fix that.
