As for the favorability thing, have you ever heard of Full Metal Daemon: Muramasa? In that one, the girl with the highest affection is killed off every chapter. XD It's incidentally an amazing story with many similarities to this one. Especially in how it uses lots of common tropes to imprint an expectation upon the reader and then yank you into the depths of despair when you thought you knew what was coming. And the fact that it was purposely written to seem bad and with many plot holes at the start only for everything to come together amazingly in the end and you realize it was the plan all along.
