It’s interesting that A Wang doesn’t consider that his wish for Ning Nuan to have a happy life doesn’t intrinsically mean that he must remain distant from her. Despite the misunderstandings and friction between them, it’s reasonable to think that she truly loved him and vice versa. Relationships always have bumps - theirs was exploited and exacerbated by the most powerful people in their country, and that was what ended their lives. Without the murderous meddling, their relationship could have recovered and flourished.Ning Nuan isn’t a direct and emotive woman but it was very clear in the subtext that she was disappointed when she heard that he would no longer approach her. She obviously liked him and thought better of his character.Just because their relationship in the previous life became tangled and painful, it doesn’t mean that their emotional connection was not strong.Read more
