If the two beast have a spiritual link why was there no contact the minute they got separated? I thought no matter your distance u can still contact the party involved.It can’t be cuz they are in the territory of the undead. Come on is not a phone service. I think because the Howling abyss has too much death energy that separates it from the outside. Taotie and vb only resume connection when they reached Howling abyss. But since SY is still undead so the power of connection with those of the light/positive attributes got restrained

Do you remember when Shen Yanxiao went to the Sun Graveyard and got trapped in the old palace? It was mentioned there that her connection with Vermillion bird was cut off. And in the Vermillion Bird's perspective, it was mentioned that there were only two reasons why it could have disappeared: she died, or she was in a whole other continent. And the second reason is indeed the case here, they had been on completely different continents.
