It just occurred to me, seashell and coral are (biologically speaking) animals. Seashells are Bivalvia while coral are Cnidaria (a phylum in animal invertebrates group). The shells of Bivalvia are its exoskeletons while the hard dry corals are the corals' corpses or skeleton.If merfolk have the living seashells and corals, it's more appropriate to call it their pet than calling it decorations for their home.
