Are you guys fools? A perfectly random stranger, decides to bid against noble families. That's like putting a giant bullseye on your back. The pharmacist makes sense, cause he's rich due to potions.

I agree with you if he came to bid for the divine weapon. But, his target is the "ordinary" treasure which will be seen as common item in the eyes of the noble folks. They would only treat him as unenlightened nouveau riche and his coming in the auction house was his "first step" of mingling in their circle.
