But the other bidder was just bidding for the sake of not losing face, he wasn't actually willing to spend so much on a 'decoration' so you can see it's not uncommon to have people bidding crazily for something that seems useless. Also the knowledge is rare so she assumes that it's unlikely someone with that knowledge would show up at her auction
