It might be a stretch but I feel that he directly proposed to Yao family after her express denial, thus directly leading her into a fire pit.2. He was obviously negligent and failed to protect Yao Shi & her childrenRead more-Yao Shi was the official wife yet a concubine was in charge of the estate-the concubine was so powerful that she could plot murder & get away with it-He knew his sons were misguided & bullied Gu Yan, yet never attempted to correct the core misunderstanding between the 2 parties.-He even had the audacity to claim he didn't know about the rumors slandering Yao Shi as if that absolved him of all responsibility.3. He made zero attempt to know his biological children and reconcile with them.-just assumed that Gu Jiao was dumb. Even if she was, there was no sincere effort to groom her without the implication that she owed him gratitude. This is what he owed her as a parent in the first place-honestly I'm disgusted with how he was constantly beating his sons. No wonder they sought warmth from a snake. His son was stabbed & fell depressed but he couldn't be bothered to visit him.No-one cares if he still pampered Gu Jinyu, but why should it be at the expense of everyone else?Moreover, Gu Jinyu proved herself to be a white eyed wolf through and through. She is no longer some innocent victim. If she was content with just being Yao Shi's daughter, I feel that Yao Shi's motherly instincts wouldn't allow her to wrong Gu Jinyu. But from the get go, she was ok with currying favor with people who hurt her mother and "twin" brother.Show less

This part of the story is the most problematic for me. Clearly, Gu Jinyu is cut from the same cloth as the people who mistreated OG Gu Jiao and she is selfish also due to her growing up pampered in the mansion/palace. I can understand why she doesn't want to go back to the country family, nor should she have to. She hasn't mistreated Gu Jiao in this life, although she did claim credit for the bellows and her "improvement" caused a major accident.Their dad loves Gu Jinyu more because he raised her. If you adopt a child and raise it, can't you love it like your own? Of course you can. His major mistake lies in wanting to avoid people knowing that Gu Jinyu wasn't their child. His love for Gu Jinyu is deeper than for Gu Jiao also because he met a different Gu Jiao who repeatedly beats him up. He does love his sons and his wife and he's not a horrible abuser (although I think his punishment of Gu Chenglin was too harsh, given what he went through with Gu Jiao beforehand. I'm waiting for some major character growth from this brother.)I think both the father and sister are sort of realistic everyday people in a story with amazingly non-realistic characters like our ML and FL. Hopefully, they'll all sort themselves out, but I don't think the dad needs to throw out the daughter he raised for the recently reclaimed biological daughter who wants nothing to do with him.Read more
