Gu Jinyu seems like a good person. I hope when she found out the truth, she won't change into a bitter person

I can't help but feel really bad for Gu Jinyu. She doesn't seem like a bad person, at least not at this juncture. Honestly, any sane person would jump to the same conclusion she did. The amount of circumstantial evidence stacked against Gu Jiao was staggering, and who could blame her for getting angry at a thief? Once the truth was made clear, she quickly apologized without making a fuss about it, and she didn't even try to put herself in a better light when she recounted things to her mother. That already makes her a better person than most villains in these types of stories. Of course, she could be a white lotus, but the jury's still out on that one.Anyway, what I feel bad about is her family situation. So she was swapped at birth by this drunkard priest, grew up adored by her parents, held money and status. She had everything. And then Gu Jiao shows up as the real daughter, and it turns out that Gu Jinyu is just an orphan to poor farmers. She's lost everything that defined her, especially considering how she's a woman during ancient times. Now, this is Gu Jiao's birthright, so I'm not blaming her situation either. Neither of them asked to be swapped at birth, obviously. But that's only really true if Gu Jiao was still the original Gu Jiao... The current one has her body and her memories, but she isn't actually her. She has no more a claim on Gu Jiao's real family than Gu Jinyu does. Strictly speaking, both of them would be adopted daughters, and yet the one who grew up in the family now has to step aside for the newly adopted one? That's really friggen unfair. I'm not really looking forward to seeing her lose her mind over this and clash with Gu Jiao, and of course lose every time, eroding any sort of goodwill she had with her adopted family. I could be wrong and instead she'll become good friends with Jiao, but that's not usually how these kinds of stories goes.Read more

I 150 percent agree. Unfortunately, I'm sure she has the cannon fodder fate awaiting her for daring to have what the protagonist should have had.But I'm going to play devil's advocate here. Imagine if it was the original MC that had not died in the river. It would have been her going insane from It all. It's one thing to know your life was tragic, what can you do? You can only blame fate. But then what if you found out that all the pain and suffering you went through was meant for someone else? While you starved she lived in luxury. While you were hated she was adored. While you were cursed at she was praised? And everyone would expect you to pretend all your suffering didn't happen, to pity her, to give way to this imposter who stole your life because "it wasn't her fault either." And remember this is a 15 year old with an admitted mental handicap and an inferiority complex borne from abuse and her "disfigurement". We do not know how well she can process all this; (a). she does not have the privilege of being taught magnanimity because her parents died when she was 5 and was scorned ever since. (b) She was never taught to hide her emotions because she wasn't raised in a big clan and doesn't know how to please others. How can she not feel like a cheap knock-off with her frost bitten hands, skeletal figure, sunburnt skin and course her? How can she not feel lesser when she can barely do a basic greeting, cannot read or play an instrument? With people comparing the two and finding her lacking how can she not lash out? Not knowing the more she lashes the more the people around her sympathize with the other person and despise her because none of them can possibly understand her suffering. How can she not hate?! Tell me honestly if this does not sound like a plot of a revenge reverse time novel?Read more

that's really unfortunate but between the real gu jiao and her who's really the one who lost out? at least the fake get to live her life until she can think with good environment and everything but gu jiao received none whether it's familial love or material things, there is no one to care for her even when she "died", her life who should have been as bright was snatched, it was not gu jiao who stole anything. to be honest i didn't want the mc to get involved in this family at first but it seems unavoidable, but i still felt a little injustice for the real gu jiao (even if she is a bit of bitch), especially that scene of the marchioness and the fake young miss, she was so loved and cared for than her original fate

you narrating the gu jinyu's side makes her really seem like the most pitiful but you kind of set aside gu jiao's side here, sad as it is, gu jiao's the real flesh and blood , what more is that she didn't even get the chance to know, she disappeared not knowing what is her place in the world, even her body got occupied but on the brighter side, she couldn't have live long with her helpless personality as a peasant (I don't really side with the og gu jiao because honestly she's not good base on the narration but lets give her the benefits of the doubt, her younger cousin wouldn't have been attached to her like that if she doesn't have even a little bit of kindness in her)

A) Life is inherently unfair this novel portrays that vividly.B) Jinyu let her maid verbally abuse someone and she didn't step in to prevent the maid from trying to hit her.C) Despite her words, Jinyu did not stop the maid tying the jade on her. She clearly had the intention to take it back.Read moreD) Jinyu disdained the fact that Jiao approached her and touched her clothes.E) Yes Jinyu apologised and it *seemed* sincere but to me it felt fake.F) Although she reported truthfully the facts, she clearly didn't report truthfully on her attitude. She hid her disdain for Jiao from her mother, probably knowing her mother would disapprove. Look at how comforted she was by her mother's joke about the two of them.G) If Jiao hadn't taken over the originals body Jinyu's brother wouldn't have survived, so even if Jiao gets recognised it seems fair.H) Does a woman who prays so ardently for her son and teaches her daughter so well really seem like the kind of woman to chuck the daughter she raised back to a farming family? The most likely reaction is to just adopt her as her own, especially since she's orphaned.Show less

20 taels... For such a wealthy client, whom the doctors literally risked their lives to treat, that's so incredibly stingy! That Qin whatshisface scholar gave 100 taels as a mere finders fee for recovering a letter...
TeaLady5 months ago
But she had to have at least 5 taels deducted for treatment fees just for hubby's first consultation and herbs for moxibustion. (I know she's the one treating him but she's getting them to act with her and she did use some of their resources in the diagnosis and presumably the room couldn't be used for a paying patient either). We don't know if she owes additional fees from the time she did surgery on him. Also Qin was 'extorted' by her previously so he probably used that as a scale to calculate the reward! Oh and he seems to be somewhat attracted to her now!

Who knows? If the parents had survived then original owner may have been better behaved
