Aaah. Is it why the setting for the rulers of four countries' reaction to devils' invasion was changed to the extreme form of selfishness a human could have? Because, in no way, those kings, emperors, the four head of Divine Wind Alliance, and their entourage are more "selfless" than the protagonist SYX. After all, the initial character setting for them were "greedy, stupid, incompetent, opportunist" who dare to offend her. But, honestly, the author didn't have to go this far to prove this point. The earlier narration has laid enough foundation for that and this "character development" isn't even needed as justification for SYX hegemony over them nor for their death (devils army can kill them at the end of war).At this point, the narration successfully paint SYX as a multifaceted 4D human being and reduce those rulers into a one or two dimensional character. Because, even the most selfless people I know, their selflessness still fueled by some degree of "selfishness". It's either they want to please God or simply want to gain their inner peace.

I am happy that this MC is aware of what she actually wants and isn't fooling herself. SYX is very honest and I love that about her.

This is why I love this book. Her character is so realistic. So many other MC are all self righteous and go above and beyond to prove that they are selfless but I can never truly connect with them because everyone is at least a little selfish. What I like about her is that she'll think about the bigger picture and cunningly use people to her advantage while at the same time letting them get something out of the deal. This a lot more realistic

Isn’t that the whole goal of most people, though? She’s just doing everything in the opposite order, and thinking deeply about it. She’s been worshipped, thanked, whatever you want to call it, before for the other helpful causes of what she did for herself, too. It is neither selfishness or selflessness. It’s a basic human emotion followed by basic human actions that can be seen in the real world. I’m not good at explaining, but I hope that you understand
